About The Mind Dojo

The Mind Dojo Performance Institute was founded on a simple observation: Under pressure, people do not rise to the occasion. They fall to the level of their training.

In aviation, business, leadership and life, the moments that define us rarely announce themselves in advance. The ability to think clearly, remain composed and perform effectively under pressure is not a personality trait. It is a skill that can be trained.

The Mind Dojo exists to help individuals, teams and organisations develop that skill.

Our Philosophy

Modern life places extraordinary demands on human attention.

Distraction, overload, uncertainty and constant change have become the operating environment for leaders, professionals and organisations.

Our philosophy is simple:

Drawing from the disciplines of martial arts, Zen philosophy, neuroscience and modern performance psychology, we train the mental skills required to perform when it matters most.

What We Teach

Clarity

Making effective decisions under stress and uncertainty.

Composure

Maintaining emotional control during high-pressure situations.

Confidence

Building trust in preparation, process and performance.

Attention

Training the ability to focus on what matters most when distractions compete for attention.

Why The Mind Dojo Exists

The Mind Dojo was created from the belief that mental performance should be trained with the same discipline and structure that athletes apply to physical performance.

For decades, elite performers in sport, aviation and defence have understood that technical skills alone are not enough. Performance depends on attention, awareness and the ability to execute under pressure.

These capabilities can be developed deliberately. That is the work of The Mind Dojo.

Founder — Darek Lebek

About the Founder

The Mind Dojo Performance Institute was founded by Darek Lebek, a sixth‑dan black belt with more than forty years of martial arts experience and two decades of teaching, coaching and developing human performance.

Across sport, martial arts, leadership development, youth programmes and high‑pressure industries, one pursuit shaped his work:

Not just to perform — people perform every day.

But to win, to adapt, to rise above uncertainty, and to access the part of themselves that says:

For more than four decades, Darek explored that question through martial arts, skiing, sailing, diving, coaching, education, business and lived experience. He competed and performed on national and international stages across multiple disciplines, developing a deep appreciation for preparation, resilience and the psychology of performance.

His journey took him across three continents and four countries, requiring him to repeatedly adapt to new cultures, new environments and the challenge of building community and opportunity from scratch — often without language, familiarity or support networks.

Teaching has been a constant throughout that journey. At sixteen, he became the youngest sailing instructor in his club, beginning what would become a lifelong commitment to coaching, mentoring and helping others unlock their potential under pressure. Over the decades that followed, he taught and coached across a wide range of disciplines and environments — from sport and martial arts to leadership development and life skills education.

Beyond coaching, Darek spent more than thirty years working in the building, construction and project delivery sectors, holding qualifications in Building & Construction and Project Management. These environments — defined by uncertainty, complexity and consequence — provided first-hand insight into leadership, teamwork, communication and decision‑making under pressure.

Since 2013, he has also delivered martial arts therapy and life skills programmes for young people facing significant personal and social challenges, helping participants develop resilience, emotional regulation and the ability to make positive decisions under pressure.

Across all these domains, one observation continued to emerge:

Some people became consumed by fear, doubt, distraction or the magnitude of the moment. Others remained centred, adaptable and effective.

The Mind Dojo was created to train that skill before the moment matters.
